Rösta på Tilda till Lucia

Jag ramlade precis över en helt underbart konstig kulturkrock. Jag har försökt förklara för en amerikan vad ett luciatåg är.
Det löd ungefär såhär:

"Lucia celebrated the december 13th and is a quite nice and cozy tradition. I don't know much about it's history but I do know it's originally from Italy. The theme of the tradition is "light" and therefore there are lots of live candles and mellow music. In calm, dimmed out rooms, PE-halls and churches "luciatåg", which is a long line of people in white nightgowns, walk around and sing to the audience.

A luciatåg, as far as I've seen it, concists of a couple of different parts:
- The Lucia herself, the one first in the line. She has a red ribbon tied around her waist and a crown with live candles. She keeps her hands in front of her, palm-to-palm, as if she is praying.
- The Tärnor, who are all of the girls who weren't chosen to be Lucia. The tärnor wear a silver glitter ribbon around their waists and in their hair and in one of their hand they hold a lit candle.
- The Stjärngossar, who are all of  the boys. They wear a stick with a golden star on it and a big cone-shaped white hats on their heads. The hats are often decorated with stars.
Sometimes there are tomtar and pepparkaksgubbar in there as well but those really have nothing to do with lucia.

Young kids in school and even in kindergarden are often forced to make these luciatåg. Girls usually like it even as they get older and volonteer for the big luciatåg of the city, which will sing in all the big churches on the 13th. The whole Lucia-thing isn't really appreciated by the boys just as much. If the school is trying to put together a lucia tåg we apply just to be allowed to skip interfering classes and, when we've been practising for a while, try to dodge the actual performance. Walking around in school in a white nightgown singing is considered lame.

On lucia you together with your family bake "lussekatter" which are like buns with this spice, "saffran", which is quiet rare in Swedish cooking.

Really lucia is like a tradition to set the mood right for the last days of excitement before Christmas.

This is a luciatåg.
